Believe it or not 2012 is here! Like in a blink of eyes and i still wondering what have i done throughout the entire year. So i'm already one year of graduating? Why does it feels like it happened last 3 months with all those memories with friends? Here i am again asking what does this New Year means? Other people might say it's a new period for you to change yourself or to improve. It's a year where you want to strive for everything. As for me, im still doing the same thing as i did exactly on 11.59 PM 31st December 2011 where i'm on the internet, checking the twitter, reading some gossips, watching some videos in youtube and maybe watching a k-drama. So, it still the same routine, and i'm back to the square one. As i writing this up, i am still wondering what does this New Year means to me? You may say i'm slacking off in everything i've done since all mentioned are the procrastination part of me who's lazy to change. Yes, as i fell those things are the things that closely relates to me right at this moment. I may be doing the official things like teaching or studying but the routine is there. Oh, you no need to agree with me as this is a personal judgment and opinion who do not reflect on other.
BUT, there are things that caught my interest that leads me to write this post. As you can see, the writing habit of mine is worsening tremendously without any valid reason or cure. Its affect me by the way, as i don't know where do i need to give all out of what i've feel instead of holding it inside and at the end it's leads to nothing. These are what i've seen so far over the new year resolution that people post on facebook or twitter since both sites offer a great source of all gossip in the world.
1) A riot made by university undergrads asking for freedom in academia field.
This is the hottest issue that viewed and received mix reaction from the people. Be it a lecturer, or students or the public, even graduates like me. I'm once undergrads student and I'm still one of them now since i've continue my study. This is NOT a political judgment, i repeat NOT a political judgment but it's based on a citizen of a country who's merdeka for over 55 years till now and 'undi anda adalah rahsia', so why bother telling which party that you are voted for. I also have my own mix reaction towards this as at first i thought that the boy who's sparked the risen of this issue is so brave. Who dare to actually do the same thing as he did before? It's the same situation if you recall a Palestine? Iraq? citizen who happen to throw a shoe toward George Bush just because of the hatred. Then, i've come across a blog who critics the boy's action as unmanned and it's a way of showing off that you're brave. Then again, my judgment changed. When i read the breaking news on how the students were beaten half-dead by the police on the night of the riot. I can feel the anger flew in me. I watched the video of incident and i thought why do they do that? It's like those have nothing to do? Police came and offered good deal for them to demolish the event, but they still stubborn to do it. At the end, most of them end up in the 'lokap' and few injured. That's the situation.
But then again, it get me to a very main concern on WHAT do they want in the first place. Have all the people who're showing their concern towards the issue look at what are these students asked in the first place thus, lead to the riot itself. As what i read and been emphasized by them, they want the university students have their own right in voicing out their opinions regardless of what issues. Those want their small rights to be heard and a small right to giving out their own thought and belief to the country. And what's so big deal about granting the human right of speaking for them. They also claimed that they do not represent any political parties and doing that in the name of justice. I believe in their fight as the objectives are clear. We're once a student. What does the role of Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar (MPP) in an educational institution if they're yet failed to carry out the students' voice and forever hide behind university’s administration. The issue is simple, but with the involvement of the 'invisible' hands, it looks worse than it is. I've come across my own lecturer facebook’s status, commented upon this issue. I must say it's disappointed to have that shallow mind of him saying these people are shallow minded. He sort of felt ashamed as there are students from our university involved in that riot by citing a blog link of what a random blogger has said towards the university. Why he's so intimidated by the view of the blogger? Why did he think the reputation of the university is at stake just because of the unreliable sources and opinion pointed out regarding the issue from the unknown blogger? Instead, he's being orthodox saying that the real job of a student is studying. Has he ever wondered the real responsibility of a human being? Being a student is just ONE of the roles that have been put on our shoulders. That's the turning point of my thinking. Do public actually understand the real objective of the situation?
Weeks before, i had a talk with besties regarding what happen. It's just unintentional talk that lead to this topic and we've come to a point that it's the world where youngster like us know what is right and wrong. Who's the sifu? Of course the internet and media. You cannot control people's perceptions same goes people's opinion as we have our own belief as long as you have a solid reason on what you are rooting for. You can compare and contrast which one is black and white. You can already look for the answers and and Mr.Google does help a lots. You may want to block the online stream media like youtube and twitter, but it would not be happen as what you did in blocking the web-sharing site before. So, this is the medium of everything. I thought only old people who leaves far away from the city, who hardly get any other channel of news other than rtm would have this lousy thought of mind, but it’s sadden me when people who has full excess to online sources also acts blindly as though you’re too noob in exploring the net. I also have friends who’s taking an excuse action of not caring or accurately ‘ambil cakna’ of what happen around them commented they’re too fed-up on the issues occurred. Wow, just like that? Then when people want to jump from a bridge, then you also want to jump thinking it’s actually a bungee jumping? For whatever reason you live, you need to have a strong side of opinion. Whatever opinions you have make sure it is reliable to support your verdict and not solely base on what you see and heard. Don’t be lazy to at least search deeper and read more on what’s been presented other than swallow it as what it is presented to you.
To all noobs out there, don’t be ashamed to admit yourself, (tho you're proud in reading books from Dummies series) but be ashamed of you, who do not learn anything for what happen around you. There’s a reason why a phrase like “ History repeats itself” do exist after all.
p/s: i'm hesitated in clicking the 'publish' button for this post, but after watching the videos above, "Why Not!"
